About this site
SanFranciscoDogParks.com is a plain, honest directory of San Francisco and metro dog parks: where each one is, whether it's fenced or lit, whether there's water or shade, what (if anything) you need a pass for, and the rules that keep parks open. It's built to be useful first and to pay for its own hosting with ads second.
Where the data comes from
- San Francisco city parks: the official Dog Parks page from San Francisco Parks & Recreation (names, addresses, lighting, hours, bag dispensers, the Green/Yellow/Red system, licensing), plus SF Recreation & Parks park pages and neighboring towns county parks.
- Coordinates & amenities: OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API, plus Photon geocoding for a few small parks OSM hasn't tagged yet.
- County & township parks: SF Recreation & Parks (Winton Woods, Miami Whitewater Forest, Voice of America) and neighboring towns park departments (Devou, Fort Thomas, Newport).
How honest we try to be
- Amenities we can't confirm say "not listed" rather than a guessed yes/no.
- A few new or downtown parks carry a "pin approximate" note because they're pinned to a street address, not a surveyed point.
- Parks marked pilot / in development are flagged — check the city page before making a trip.
- Park conditions change. Always read the posted Green/Yellow/Red sign at the gate. We can't know today's mud or bag levels.
Get in touch
Spot something wrong, know a park we missed, or want to volunteer your park's quirk as a tip? Leave it on the park's page — the reviews feed powers the "what people actually see here" notes. For corrections, see the contact detail on the park pages or the About footer.
